Bigg Boss TV Series

Bigg Boss is a reality TV programme broadcast in India. It is the Indian version of the Big Brother format, which was first developed by Endemol in the Netherlands.

The first series of the show aired between November 2006 and January 2007. The second series begins on 17 August 2008.

Season One (2006-2007)

Bigg Boss (Season 1)

The first series of Bigg Boss began on 3 November 2006, and ended on 26 January 2007. It was broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television. The host of this series was Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi.

Fourteen (originally twelve) celebrities, along with a hidden spy (later revealed to be Ragini Shetty), entered the inside the Big Boss house for 12 weeks with only a suitcase of luggage each. The contestants had to cook and clean by themselves – they did not have access to domestic help or stylists.

Tasks were set by Bigg Boss each week. The housemates were allowed to gamble on task outcomes, and were rewarded with extra money to order more supplies if they won.

As with most versions of Big Brother, each week, the housemates had to nominate two of their peers for eviction. They were required to give reasons for their nominations. The housemates with the most nominations then faced eviction that week, with the evictee being decided by a public vote.

Season Two (2008)

Bigg Boss (Season 2)

The second season of Bigg Boss was premiered on 17 August 2008, on new broadcaster Colors.

The show will run for three months. Bigg Boss 2 returns with Shilpa Shetty as the new host, who previously won the fifth series of Celebrity Big Brother in the United Kingdom, will be the host of this series.

The new season will feature 14 contestants competing for a cash prize of Rs 7,500,000. As part of the format, 14 contestants will live in the Bigg Boss house built in Lonavala, located 200 kms away from Mumbai. The new house is much more stylish and modernized this time. It has a very contemporary gym for the contestants whose movements will be tracked over 84 days, 24×7 by 32 cameras.

According to the Colors website, the housemates will be ‘newsmakers’ instead of celebrities this season, with some ‘commoners’ joining the line-up.

‘Bigg Boss Season 2′, the Indian version of ‘Big Brother’, comes with its unique twists this year that make it bigger and better — ‘newsmakers’ replace ‘celebrities’ in ‘BIG BOSS SEASON 2′. That apart, for the first time in the history of Indian television, a show is being launched that will be aired everyday. Further, there will be half an hour LIVE and unedited slot everyday starting second week that will air starting 12.30 a.m. Can it get more exciting? Yes, throw-in a couple of commoners with the ‘newsmakers’ and the equation becomes even more exciting.

Season Three (2009)

Bigg Boss (Season 3)

Bigg Boss Season 3 is all set to begin from 4th October 2009 on Colors (India TV channel) daily at 9pm. Amitabh Bachchan was declared as the new host of the third season of Bigg Boss on 5th September 2009. It will be the second reality show hosted by him, having previously hosted the reality game show Kaun Banega Crorepati the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Season Four (2010)

Bigg Boss (Season 4)

Bigg Boss 4 is the fourth season of the Indian reality TV program Bigg Boss, which started airing on Colors TV from October 3, 2010. This will be longer than its predecessor Bigg Boss 3 and will last for 14 weeks (96 days). The show is being hosted by Salman Khan. The house is located in city of Lonavla/Lonavale in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Aanchal Kumar

Aanchal Kumar hails from Chandigarh. Aanchal is an Indian model and has done cameo roles in Bluffmaster! and Fashion. She has done international fashion shows too.
Abbas Kazmi

Abbas Kazmi by profession is a criminal lawyer famous for being the lawyer of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab.
Ashmit Patel

Ashmit Patel (aged 32) is an actor who works in Hindi films. His sister is Ameesha Patel, also a film actor. His popular films include Murder and Silsilay. He gained popularity after he was seen in a MMS clip involving foreplay with former girlfriend Riya Sen.
Begum (Ali) Saleem

Ali Saleem (aged 31) is a Pakistani television host, actor, scriptwriter and impressionist. He cross-dresses as a woman wearing a sari and asks influential guests provocative questions in his show “Late Night with Begum Nawazish Ali”.
Devender (Bunty Ustaad)

Devender aka Bunty chor has been accused of robbery and was on the most wanted list of Delhi police. Dibakar Banerjee has made a film on him, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, where Abhay Deol played the protagonist.

On day 2, after Bunty kept continuously breaking the rules (sleeping throughout the day, covering the cameras with socks and used abusive language against Bigg Boss) he was asked to leave the house and was ejected from the show. During his stay, Bunty received the maximum number of votes when the Bigg Boss asked the contestants to nominate any one person. While the inmates thought the nomination was for eviction, Bunty was actually made the captain of the house. Later he was evicted on day 2.
Hrishant Goswami

Hrishant Goswami is a model and winner of the 2004 Gladrags Manhunt contest.
Manoj Tiwari

Manoj Tiwari (aged 45) is a Bihari actor, singer and director who acts in Bhojpuri films. He has been credited with reviving the Bhojpuri film industry. He has appeared in over 30 Bhojpuri language films.
Rahul Bhatt

Rahul Bhatt (aged 28) is an Indian fitness trainer and a film actor. The son of famous film director Mahesh Bhatt, Rahul gained unwitting notoriety in 2009, following revelations that David Headley, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, had befriended him.
Sakshi Pradhan

Sakshi Pradhan was the winner of Splitsvilla. She regained popularity when she was involved in a MMS Scandal in which she was performing Oral Sex with the director of the reality show Splitsvilla.
Samir Soni

Samir Soni (aged 42) is a Punjabi born in London. Prior to his film career, Samir was an investment banker. In the entertainment industry, he started his career as a model and then making his acting debut as Ashok Mathur in Doordarshan’s A Mouthful Of Sky (1996), based on Ashok Banker’s script and directed by Mahesh Bhatt. He made his film debut opposite actress Mamta Kulkarni in China Gate (1998). In television, he has worked in the television series Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin and Saaksshi. He has also worked with Amitabh Bachchan in Hindi movie Baghban.
Sara Khan

Sara Khan (aged 21) is an Indian model and actress. She won the Miss Madhya Pradesh title in 2007, the Best New Talent award given by IndianTelevision.com in 2008, and the STAR Parivaar Award for the “Best Patni” (Best Wife) category in 2009. She rose to fame for her character, Sadhna, in Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai.
Seema Parihar

Seema Parihar (age 41) is a former woman bandit and a member of Indian political party, Samajwadi Party. ‘Wounded’ – a film based on the real-life story based on her and she acts as herself in the movie.
Shweta Tiwari

Shweta Tiwari (aged 30) is an Indian television actress with her claim to fame is of the role of Prerna in Balaji Telefilms’s popular television show Kasautii Zindagii Kay that used to be aired on STAR Plus. Her ex-husband Raja Choudhary had earlier participated in Bigg Boss (Season 2). She was also seen in another reality show Is Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao.
Veena Malik

Veena Malik (aged 32) is a Pakistani actress, model and comedian. She has established herself as one of the leading women in the Pakistani television and film industry with her abilities to mimic others and improvise.
Features of Bigg Boss 4
Wild Card Entry

The channel hasn’t disclosed yet who will be replacing Devender aka Bunty as he got kicked out of the show on day 2 for bad behaviour and breaching of bigg boss house rules.
Captain of the House

Every week, one person would be announced by the Bigg Boss as the Captain of the House. He will receive all the facilities, such as living in the Elite Bedroom, Exemption from nominations for that week, Right to nominate one person in the house who will be directly nominated for that week regardless of the other members nominations. Other members will have to wash his/her clothes, vessels, cook food for him, etc. He/She will be the king of the house for that week. This is similar to the Head of Household position in other Big Brother series around the world.
Elite Bedroom

This is the new feature added to Bigg Boss 4. Elite Bedroom is a big room inside the common bedroom. Where all the members will live in the common room, only The captain of the House will have access to this room and will get a key for this room to keep his/her stuff and lock it. This is similar to the Head of Household room in other Big Brother’s around the world.

Season Five (2011)

Bigg Boss (Season 5)

Bigg Boss 5 in 2011 is the fifth season of the Indian reality TV show Bigg Boss, which will be aired on Colors from 2 October 2011 to 7 January 2012 with Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan as the hosts. Salman Khan may host only the first two episodes later Sanjay Dutt will take over as the host.

Presenters
Since May 2011, there were media reports that Salman Khan will be hosting Bigg Boss 5. In July 2011, it was confirmed that Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan will be hosting the show together. Like the last 3rd season the house is moved to Karjat.

Promo

Opening
Opening episode was aired on 2nd October, 2011 presented by Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. This extravagant introductury episode to the season 5 and showcased different features of Bigg Boss house and introduced each of the participant. It also featured bollywood actors Ajay Devgan and Lisa Haydon for the promo of their upcoming film Rascals and Sameer Soni came for promoting his new serial.

Participants
Contrary to its previous years formats, this season will feature 13 ladies, and only one man. The particiants in the order of appearance are:
Shakti Kapoor – A Bollywood actor who acted over 100′s of films
Pooja Bedi – A Bollywood actoress and also part Bigg Boss 2 as the interviewer of the evicted housemates.
Shonali Nagrani – Fourth runner up in the Miss India contest 2003, and also a TV anchor.
Nihita Biswas – Claiming as the wife of Charles Sobhraj and the wedding took place inside a jail in Nepal, though the following day,  jail authorities denied the same.
Shraddha Sharma – Indian TV actress and also ex-girl friend of ex-Big Boss contestant Raja Chaudhary.
Mandeep Bevli – A model-actress and a an anchor for a news channel, famous for reviewing films.
Raageshwari – A former VJ, who suffered partial paralysis soon after the launch of her album Y2K in 2000. Fully recovered and released comeback album in 2006.
